The Capital Area District Libraries (CADL) in Lansing, Michigan is encouraging community members to earn the Tree Exploration Badge on the Beanstack platform. Participants can join the challenge by visiting cadl.org/smokey.

To earn the badge, individuals can choose from the following activities:

1. Find out the name of Michigan’s state tree.

2. Check out a field guide of trees from CADL and identify how many trees you can recognize in your neighborhood.

3. Identify three products that come from trees.

4. Learn the word for “tree” in three different languages.

5. Visit an arboretum.

The Watkins Glen Central School District says the Varsity Lake Hawks will host the first round of the Section IV playoffs at the Watkins Glen Field House, with 6 p.m. tipoffs Friday and Saturday, free admission, NFHS and HUDL live streams, and Friday’s game against Lansing.

Watkins Glen to face Lansing in IAC final

Watkins Glen Central School District says the IAC Large School Championship game will feature Watkins Glen against Lansing on Feb. 19 at Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3) with a 6 p.m. tip-off; tickets are digital passes only through GoFan, gates open one hour before, Section IV and IAC passes will be accepted, screenshots will not be accepted as valid tickets, and tickets are available at gofan.co/event/6113185?schoolId=NY87583.
