Cornell Launches Innovative Training for NY Food Producers
Cornell University has launched a new training program to help New York food educators and producers meet modern food safety standards and develop innovative food products. The program, called Cornell Food Connections, is a collaboration between Cornell AgriTech, Cornell Cooperative Extension, the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, Taste NY, and SUNY.
Participants receive hands-on instruction in food safety, food processing methods, packaging, regulations, operational production records, labeling, and other areas important for the development and commercialization of food and beverages. The training is designed to assist small producers in navigating licensing, regulatory, and business development processes.
Victoria Giarratano, assistant director of agriculture, food systems, and community development at Cornell Cooperative Extension, stated that the program is focused on building a network of educators who can guide entrepreneurs from concept to commercialization. The initiative aims to increase the presence of New York state products on local shelves and support overall food entrepreneurship in the region.
