Teen Driver Crash Kills 16 on U.S. 64
On September 21, 2025, at about 10:30 p.m., Apex police responded to a single-vehicle collision near Knollwood Drive on U.S. 64 Highway. A white Chevrolet Malibu, traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed, left the roadway, struck a drainage culvert, and became airborne before rolling several times. The vehicle was occupied by three juvenile males aged 17, 16, and 16.
The 16-year-old rear passenger sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. The 17-year-old driver and the 16-year-old front passenger were transported to a nearby hospital with injuries. The driver, who did not have a valid license, has been charged with Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle.
The investigation is being conducted in cooperation with the Apex Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit, the Wake County Bureau of Forensic Services, the Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Wake County District Attorney’s Office. U.S. 64 Highway was fully reopened at 7:06 a.m. on September 22, 2025. Further details are pending.
